Riverdale star Luke Perry has sadly passed away on the morning of Monday, March 4 after suffering a “massive” stroke less than a week prior. The actor died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, California at just 52 years old.

A statement from his rep says, “Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke. He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.

Another statement from Riverdale‘s executive producers as well as Warner Bros. Television and The CW reads, “We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”

Luke was rushed to the hospital at roughly 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, and his condition quickly deteriorated.

On February 28, his rep told Us Weekly, “Mr. Perry is currently under observation at the hospital.”

At the time, some reports claimed that the 52-year-old was placed in a medically-induced coma, but his reps denied that claim and said that he was heavily sedated, which doctors hoped would give his brain a chance to recover from the stroke.

While Luke was in the hospital, several of his costars rallied behind him and shared their wishes for a speedy and thorough recovery. Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart were just two of the several Riverdale cast members who posted about Luke. His former 90210 love interest, Shannen Doherty, also spoke about Luke at a recent charity event.

The actress told Entertainment Tonight, “I can’t talk about it here ’cause I will literally start crying but I love him and he knows I love him. It’s Luke, and he’s my Dylan.”
