Is Nina Dobrev on Team Damon or Team Stefan IRL? Well, she’s actually not on either team! Yep, when The Vampire Diaries star was asked who she would choose between ex Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, the actress had a pretty surprising reply.
After E! News reposted a photo of the onscreen brothers sharing a glass of their new business venture — Brother’s Bond Bourbon — on Instagram, following the actors’ epic reunion, they called on Nina to pick between her former, fictional love interests.
“POV: You’re Elena on #TheVampireDiaries. Who are you choosing?” they captioned the pic. “Hey @Nina… Quick Q.”
She hilariously replied with, “@enews the bourbon,” alongside a wink face emoji.
As fans know, Nina and Ian dated for a few years, from 2010 until 2013, while they were filming the fan-favorite series. Despite their split, there’s never been any bad blood between the exes. At the time of their breakup, a source told Us Weekly that the pair were “consummate professionals.”
The insider added, at the time, “They will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started.”
In 2017, Nina even took to Instagram and shared a sweet selfie alongside Ian and his now wife, Nikki Reed.
“Can’t believe how time flies. Farewell dinner with team Somereed! So good catching up with these goofballs,” she captioned the pic at the time.
Following the couple’s wedding in 2015, Nina also dished on their “beautiful” ceremony.
“I’ve said this before, that we didn’t break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn’t love or friendship. I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him. And that didn’t change. Yes, we’re professional and that’s fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now,” she explained to E! News, back in the day.
