Singer Selena Gomez just set the record straight about her run-in with Hailey Bieber. On Saturday, January 11, the 27-year-old songstress was celebrating her album’s release with a group of friends at a restaurant called Craig’s in West Hollywood, California. At the same time, Selena’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber‘s new wife Hailey was also having dinner with BFF Madison Beer in the same establishment.

Fans on social media started to spread false rumors about the stars’ interaction at the restaurant. One fan account alleged that Hailey and Madison were screaming Justin’s name when Selena’s music started playing throughout the dining room. After hearing these rumors, angry followers took to Instagram and left hateful comments on Madison’s most recent post.

The 20-year-old singer shut down these rumors and responded to a fan who asked, “Why tf would you do that?”

“These rumors are getting insane.. I just had dinner with my friend Hailey of 10 years… and that’s it?” Madison wrote back to the fan. “How is that a crime? I love Selena.. always have (as y’all know) and I would literally never in a million years try to upset her??? That is just mean and unnecessary and nothing happened. It was just a coincidence, you’re bullying me for no reason…”

Selena also responded to the negative comments and cleared the air.

“This is disgusting reading all of this. This wasn’t intentional whatsoever,” the Rare songstress commented. “I’m so disappointed that people would speak to someone like this. I have known Madison since she was a baby and watching her continue to become the woman she is. There is no issue.”

For those who don’t know, this isn’t the first time that Selena called out fans for posting hateful messages on social media. In October 2019, after she released her single “Lose You To Love Me,” Hailey seemingly shaded the song on her Instagram Stories. The former Wizards of Waverly Place star addressed the situation during an Instagram Live stream and told fans to stop being mean to the model because she “doesn’t stand for women tearing women down.”

“I will never, ever be by that, so please be kind to everyone. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, if you’re my fans, don’t be rude to anybody, please,” she said at the time. “Don’t go off and say things that you just feel in the moment. Please, for me, know that that’s not my heart.”
