Songstress Selena Gomez just revealed that she has plans to take her music videos in a new direction. During her Rare iHeartRadio album release party, the 27-year-old said she will no longer making sultry videos.

During the event on January 9, 2020, Selena was surprised when her “Hands To Myself” video started to play on screens throughout the venue. Later on in the night, she told KIIS FM’s Jojo Wright that she was embarrassed to see the visual.

“I didn’t know you were going to play the video,” the Wizards of Waverly Place alum admitted. “My sister [6-year-old Gracie] is here. I told my sister I will not be doing videos like that anymore. It’s not really necessary, in my opinion.”

On January 10, 2020, Selena not only released her new album Rare, but a music video to go along with the title track. The singer unveiled a retro-style haircut in the visual and showed off the new music video vibe that she previously spoke about.

Aside from talking about moving away from sexy videos, she also opened up at the iHeartRadio event about how she dealt with her mental health issues during the making of Rare.

“I’m happy and a little confused still, but so happy I went through that,” she said. “In order for the people to see I’m not a victim … I don’t need to act in the manner of always getting down at myself.”

She also compared the new record to her 2015 album, Revival, and spoke on the differences between the two. She got real about how much she’s grown in the past five years.

“That’s like saying what were you like from 20 to 25 — there’s so much that happens,” Selena explained. “I feel like it’s not better, but a piece of work that I think is better. And you can tell I’ve evolved so that’s good.”
