Actress Shay Mitchell is not afraid to call out mommy shamers. On Tuesday, December 10, the Pretty Little Liars alum shared a a stunning photo of herself breastfeeding her newborn daughter Atlas and totally clapped back at an Instagram commenter who accused her of not being connected with the baby. For those who missed it, the 32-year-old welcomed her first child with boyfriend Matte Babel on October 20, 2019.
In the photo, Shay posed in a green robe as she held her baby to her chest. The caption read, “Breast friends forever.”
The picture was initially well received by many Instagram users who commented on the post with positive messages that praised her for normalizing breastfeeding.
“Shay is going to be such a positive role model for [mommies]. No pressure Shay, you’ve got this,” one social media user wrote. Another added, “This is inspiration, this is beautiful, this is letting all mothers know that it is natural and not to be ashamed.”
However, among all the supportive comments, one follower said the actress should be looking down at her baby instead of the camera.
“She’s not even looking at the baby, she’s not connected with the baby,” the commenter wrote before adding, “she’s connected with the camera.”
The You actress was quick to respond and clapped back in the best way.
“I missed the part in the baby books that stated I had to maintain eye contact with my daughter while she feeds rather than capturing an amazing moment we were having,” Shay said. “[Please] let me know where I can download your parenting manual, I’ll get right on it!”
As fans know, this isn’t the first time Shay has called out fans on social media for mom shaming. Back in October, she took to Instagram Stories and addressed backlash she received from after she attending Drake‘s 33rd birthday party just a few days after giving birth.
“I haven’t been really checking my comments that often, but apparently people are really upset that I left three days after having a kid to go out and party. It wasn’t three days and I left her with [my dog] Angel,” she quipped.
