It’s been almost five months since Cameron Boyce tragically passed away, and his Descendants costar Sofia Carson is still coping with the devastating loss.
“It’s a very difficult thing for me to speak about,” she told People Magazine as she broke down in tears on Tuesday, December 3. “We didn’t only lose someone, the world lost someone that was so beloved.”
The Disney actor was only 20 years old when he died on July 6, 2019, after having a seizure in his sleep. As fans know, Cameron was super passionate about giving back, helping others and using his platform for good, and before his sad passing, he was involved in numerous charities. After his death, his parents launched the Cameron Boyce Foundation in his honor.
“It’s been so beautiful to see the support from everyone, especially for his family and the foundation, which is the most important thing right now,” Sofia continued. “That’s been very overwhelming. But it’s a tragedy.”
When the outlet asked the 26-year-old actress if she’d be willing to reprise her role as Evie for a fourth Descendants movie, she admitted that it wouldn’t be the same without Cameron.
“I couldn’t imagine doing it without him,” she explained. “But I appreciate that people love the franchise so much that they would want it to continue. I love Evie but it’s the core four forever.”
Dove Cameron revealed last month she wasn’t very comfortable making another movie without him either.
“I don’t love the idea of doing it without Cameron, I don’t know what the plot would be and I don’t know what it would look like,” the Disney star told Entertainment Tonight. “But I also love the franchise and I love [director] Kenny [Ortega], and I love Disney and I love that cast. I loved that time in my life.”
Sofia previously opened up about Cameron’s death, telling Good Morning America, “If you could bottle up happiness, that was Cam. He was pure happiness and pure joy. There really will never be any words to describe the pain and how much we miss him. And not much helps except knowing that he lived life with more happiness with anyone I’ve ever known.”
