You should never make assumptions about people based off their appearances, and Joey King just had an awkward experience that helped enforce this lesson. The actress recently shaved all her hair off for a role in the upcoming Hulu series, The Act, and not only were we totally blown away by her bravery, but she totally rocks the look. But the Kissing Booth star just told a super sad story about a fellow passenger on a plane that made an unfair assumption about her based on the drastic haircut and it was so not OK.
“Y’all I’m on a plane & this man next to me literally turned to me with his phone in my face and took a photo of me as if I wouldn’t notice,” she explained on Twitter yesterday, Nov. 18. “[He] texted his wife that he’s sitting next to a girl who has cancer (just cuz I’m bald) & that he’s scared to ‘catch it'”

“I read his text over his shoulder it said ‘some bald chick next to me with f*****g cancer coughed and I don’t wanna catch it,'” she continued. “Um ya jokin’?”
Fans were quick to stick up for the 19-year-old star, agreeing that the man’s actions were super disrespectful.
“Being bald doesn’t have to mean you’re sick. It can also mean that you are a strong, beautiful and confident woman, who doesn’t need hair to feel beautiful,” one wrote. “[People] need to stop stereotyping everything. People have different stories & different reasons. Feel free to be proud.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
Joey recently opened up to Allure about the process of getting rid of her gorgeous locks for the role.
“I’ve never really had an attachment to my hair. I couldn’t care less what happens to it,” she explained. “No part of me was nervous or was second-guessing it. So many people would ask me, ‘Are you really scared?’ or ‘Are you nervous?’ or say, ‘You’re so brave.’ And I’d go, ‘I’m not brave. I’m just cutting my hair off.’”
It is so important to remember to never to judge a book by it’s cover, and this is a perfect example of that. You go Joey, rock that bald head proudly!
