Don’t worry, guys, the show must go on! That’s right, American Idol is set to continue its current season — Season 18 — and move ahead with live shows amid the current coronavirus pandemic. On Tuesday, April 14, Katy Perry took to Twitter and explained.

For those who missed it, the World Health Organization has reported that over 2,000,000 people have contracted the coronavirus so far in more than 200 countries resulting in more than 129,000 deaths. Medical professionals have called for “social distancing” to prevent further spreading of the illness, which is defined as “trying to keep yourself away from other people, especially large crowds.” Because of this many events, concerts, award shows, conventions and festivals have been canceled, including all Broadway plays and sports games. People are urged to stay indoors and isolate themselves during this time.

So, in order to abide by the social distancing rules, the show had to adjust its format a bit. As it turns out, the “Teenage Dream” songstress will be judging from her home in California, while Lionel Richie will also judge from his home in Los Angeles. Ryan Seacrest will be hosting from his house on the west coast, and subsequently, Luke Bryan and Bobby Bones will be in their respective Nashville homes to judge the performances. What about the contestants? Well, they’ll be performing from inside their own houses too! From the sound of it, the voting process will stay the same and viewers are still going to have the opportunity to choose a winner.

Mark your calendars, people, because the live shows will start airing on Sunday, April 26, with the top 20 contestants giving the performances of a lifetime from the comfort of their own homes.
