TikTok star Avani Gregg has spoken out in a candid message to followers. She asked them to “stop hating” after one of her fans seemingly received death threats following a Twitter joke the influencer made.
For those who missed it, the drama started after one of the Hype House member’s fans attempted to get the 17-year-old’s attention with a message calling her out and accusing her of playing favorites among her fanbase.
“Hi, so me and thousands of your fans are upset with you,” the initial message read, according to a screenshot reposted by the TikTok Room Instagram account. “It’s okay that you like her, but some times you don’t even pay attention to other fans. That makes us very sad and unmotivated. There are other people besides her.”
After the same message was reposted by various fans, Avani herself took to Twitter and tweeted it out. But when the initial fan started getting hate messages and “death threats” from other social media users, Avani set the record straight. In a series of since-deleted tweets, she explained that she didn’t know what was going on and thought it was a joke directed toward another TikTok star, Amelie Zilber.
“I’m genuinely so lost [right now] and the fact that I’m in the blame for someone getting death threats when I don’t even know what’s happening is insane,” Avani wrote, according to screenshots. “First, stop hating on people it’s annoying asf and very low of [you].”
After telling her 1.9 million followers that she would “stop interacting” with them if they were going to continue to fight online, Avani also said she started a DM conversation with the original fan who posted the initial message on Twitter.
“I DMed her privately,” she wrote. She then concluded the entire situation with, “I don’t enjoy people feeling like this, so I may just unfollow everyone one here for a [little]. I’m sorry.”
