The wait is finally over. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina hit Netflix during the weekend, and yes, it’s safe to say many of us spent 10 hours glued to our couches to binge Season 1. It’s addicting, what can we say! And if you got up to episode seven, then you know there was a surprise appearance from a Riverdale character that legit has everyone SHOOK. Warning, spoilers below:

At the end of episode seven, there’s a knock at Miss. Wardell’s door from a pizza delivery guy. And that guy happens to be Ben Button from Riverdale, giving us all a crossover between the two series that we never thought would happen.

Now if you’re caught up on The CW series, then you know Ben has a tendency to show up at odd times, like that time he was seen kissing Miss. Grundy you know, before she was murdered by the Black Hood. Casual. BUT, in the current third season of Riverdale, we know Ben was involved in playing the dangerous game Griffins and Gargoyles with Dilton Doiley, where they both ended up sacrificing themselves to the mysterious Gargoyle King. We saw Ben throw himself out of a hospital window after telling Jughead and Betty “You’ll fly too.”

It was terrifying and as far as we know, Ben is no longer alive in the Riverdale universe. So how did he end up in Greendale with Sabrina? Was this before he died? Or is he still alive somehow? Is there magic involved? SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

Well, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the executive producer of both shows spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the Riverdale Easter egg in Sabrina and what Ben showing up in this new series really means. Sort of.

“That’s a good question, and that depends. It suggests a very deep, deep mythology where time and space bends. I love that kid. I’m sad that he keeps turning up and horrible things keep happening to him,” Roberto said. “It seemed like [his fall from the hospital] was pretty final, but yet there he is in Greendale. But in Greendale, everyone pops up — the dead don’t stay dead long in Greendale.”

Okay, Roberto, you’re not giving us much here, bud. But if you were watching CAOS and thought that couldn’t be Ben Button in episode seven, just know it totally was. So you were right! As for what it means for the towns of Riverdale and Greendale and if there will be a more official crossover between the two shows, we’ll just have to wait and see.
