Brace yourselves, people, because more than 13 years after Hannah Montana premiered on Disney Channel, Billy Ray Cyrus just confirmed that a prequel inspired by the iconic show is officially in the works! Yep, not only is the network planning a spinoff of the series, but the rockstar who played Hannah’s dad in the series also revealed that he’s totally down to reprise his role.
While speaking to HollywoodLife, he explained, “They’re talking about doing a prequel, which to me, I would do that in a heartbeat, because that means I get to get my mullet back. I think there’s a whole story that led up to Miley becoming Hannah Montana.”
As fans know, the show premiered in April 2006 and went on for four epic seasons before it concluded in January 2011. Besides Billy, it also starred his daughter Miley Cyrus, Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, Jason Earles, Moises Arias and more. It followed a normal girl named Miley who was secretly living a double life as a pop star! She had to balance fame and everything that comes along with it with school work and tests, all while keeping her secret hidden from the world. It was definitely a big part of a lot of people’s childhoods, so this is seriously the best news ever! It’s unclear whether or not the original cast members will return for the prequel, but hopefully Disney announces something soon!
It turns out, this isn’t the only throwback show that they’re rebooting. For those who missed it, the network announced back in August 2019 that they were bringing back Lizzie McGuire, and everyone is pretty excited. The new show will follow the character fans know and love in her 30s, and want to know the best part? Hilary Duff has already confirmed that she’s going to star in it!
“SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl… and into her 30’s,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I’ve really missed her. I think now is a great time for her to come back in her 30s. You know she’s everybody’s best friend and I can’t wait to go on this next chapter with her, and I hope everyone is as excited as I am.”
