Some YouTube fans had a lot to say after Bretman Rock decided to collaborate with James Charles on a series of videos. For those who missed it, on Friday, February 28, both beauty vloggers took to social media to announce that they paired up and recorded two videos together — a mukbang for James’ channel and song association game for Bretman’s. And while most comments about their collaboration were positive, when some fans had a few not-so-nice things to say about Bretman’s decision to team up with James, the YouTuber was not happy.

After he caught wind of the negative comments coming his way, the social media star took to Twitter to address them once and for all. The influencer called out the hateful social media users and told them that if they were upset with the videos, the simplest solution would be to not watch them at all.

Bretman posted two screenshots comparing the response he got from working with James and the response James got from working with him. They showed his fans writing negative things about James, like “please don’t” and “h**l nah,” while James’ fan comments were super positive.

“We’ve been waiting for this for ages,” one Twitter user posted.

Some people were seemingly upset with Bretman’s collaboration because of the beauty guru’s past scandals. Bretman acknowledged this in a separate Twitter post.

“I’ve expressed my opinions about his past in the video if you had bothered to watch it,” he replied to a since-deleted tweet. “I don’t agree with everything he’s done.. I’m not here to defend any of that but what I don’t agree with is the internet pushing him in the verge of suicide. I can only imagine what thats like.”

Negative comments aside, some people praised Bretman’s ability to defend James.

“I don’t think anyone hates you (I love you a lot), but I think it’s ok for people to call something out when they feel like it’s wrong (objectively, James does have a problematic and racist past that most can’t overlook),” one fan said. Another added, “[I don’t know] if it’s just me, but I genuinely love that Bretman can get along with everyone and completely remove himself from all negativity in the beauty community.”

James has yet to respond to any backlash following his collaboration with Bretman.
