Note to self: Do not ask Cheryl Cole if her new song is about her ex-boyfriend Liam Payne. The singer just let everyone know that no, it’s not about him and she’s pretty sick of people asking her about it.

As fans know, the 35-year-old recently dropped her new single “Let You.” And when the music video featured a man who had tattoos pretty similar to the One Direction singer, fans were sure that it was confirmation that the tune was about him. Not to mention that the new song contained a line pretty similar to Liam’s hit “Strip That Down,” but according to Cheryl, that wasn’t the case.

“It’s crazy. I have a guy in the video with tattoos and they’re like ‘she’s trying to portray [Liam].’ It’s not. I wrote it with two girlfriends about a subject most people can relate to,” she told The Standard. “It’s absolutely nothing like him whatsoever. You just have to get a tattoo these days and you resemble someone.”

OK, we’re glad the Girls Aloud singer is setting the record straight once and for all!

“Even if I received a song, say [someone else] wrote a hit and they wanted me to sing it… somebody’s going to say something,” she continued. “I can’t think about it like that or it would hinder the things I want to write about. It’s really annoying. Even previous songs have always been about somebody else and I do get it but it’s just not the case.”

As fans know, Cheryl and the 25-year-old 1D heartthrob dated for almost three years before calling it quits back in July 2018. But you’ll be happy to know that they’ve stayed on good terms since their shocking split. How do we know, you ask? Well, the two have been caught hanging out quite a few times since then. Not to mention that they’ve supported each others new music. And get this — they even spent the holidays together! Phew, that’s good news, especially since they share a 2-year-old son, Bear, together.

Well, this song may not be about her relationship with Liam, but we’re low-key hoping that some on her upcoming tunes are. We’d seriously love some insight on their relationship and why they split, TBH.
