When the guys of One Direction each went their separate ways and officially entered the indefinite hiatus phase, fans were left wondering what was next for Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson. Well, we ended up getting plenty of solo songs, tours, a movie, TV show gigs, and even some babies. Harry was the first of the boys to drop his first full-length solo album on us all and his self-titled debut was a strong one that led to a sold-out world tour. So what’s next for him?

Well, the 24-year-old is actually working on his next album as he explained in an interview he did with 22-year-old actor Timothée Chalamet for i-D and Hazza made it clear he’s taking his sweet time, not really thinking about deadlines or if he’ll end up starring in any more movies. During his 1D days, his life was planned out for him, so he’s happy to be doing things on his own terms now.

“When I was in the band, I always knew what I was doing two years in advance. Now, I’m making records on my own it’s pretty exciting because I know this is all I’m going to be doing until I finish the record. It’s a new way of working,” Harry told Timothée. “I’m making my second album right now, so I’m going to do that, read a lot, and see what happens. When I got the role in Dunkirk, it happened right at the start of my first album, so I had to stop everything for five months. But stuff like that always happens when it happens, so I dunno, man. I’m enjoying not knowing to be honest.”

And as Harry pointed out, his musical journey has been a true process, where he wasn’t always the pro songwriter he is today.

“Yeah, when I started I really didn’t know what I was doing. So I tried to write as much as possible, with as many different people as possible and try and learn as much as I could. I guarantee I wrote a lot of really, really bad s–t before I wrote anything good,” he said.

With hits like “Sign of the Times” and “Kiwi” and even writing beautiful songs for other artists like “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart” for Ariana Grande, it’s safe to say Harry knows how to create a masterpiece tunes at the drop of a hat now. So HS2 will be worth the wait, whenever he decides to drop it on us all. Just know, he’s cooking it all up now.
