Social media influencers Brandon and Hunter Rowland just shared a very personal life update with their fans. The internet-famous brothers are now emancipated from their mother through court, meaning they are no longer under the legal custody of their mom. The two took to social media to share the major news and explain why they went through this process of legally becoming adults before turning 18 years old.

Brandon, 16, wrote, “Such a shocking moment… hunter and I have been fighting for emancipation for almost 2 years.. Growing up we were surrounded by drugs [and] alcohol, we experienced so much at such a young age and I think that’s what made us who we are today. At one point in my life I was so broken that I gave up on everything.. I stopped posting, I stopped going to school, I stopped eating… everything. There’s so much more to us than what you see, and this is one of those things. hunter is the reason I’m where I am, the reason I’m emancipated, I would still be stuck where I was without him and you guys. I love you.”

Hunter, 17, wrote alongside his post, “today’s one of the biggest days of my life. Emancipation is a legal process in which a child (minor) becomes legally an adult before they’re 18. We can sign our own contracts, travel internationally, pay our own bills, get our own health insurance, etc. The list goes on and on.. and for the last three years we have been fighting our only parent (our mom) for custody of ourselves. I was kicked out of my home when I was 16 years old.. my mom left me to feed [and] shelter myself for so long. I’ve never said anything about it because of so many reasons. We will release a video this week explaining everything. Proud of you brother.”

Many of the boys’ fellow YouTubers and celebrities took to the comment sections of their posts to express their support.

“I know how tough [you] guys [are you] have such thick skin, Jacob Sartorius commented. “Continue to thrive and keep your drive.”

James Charles also left an encouraging comment, writing, “Proud of you.”

The brothers will also be posting a YouTube video soon, which will explain their whole story. We wish the brothers all the best and hope they continue to stay strong.
