During their time in the band, it appeared that the members of One Direction were as close as can be. But Liam Payne just revealed that behind the scenes, there was actually some major feuding going on. The “Strip That Down” crooner admitted that he and Louis Tomlinson “absolutely hated each other” when the band first started, and our hearts are seriously breaking.
“When we were in the band — because [Louis] was the oldest and because I had been singing for quite a little bit of time, we both got put into a weird position because he wanted to be the leader and I was doing my thing and wanted to too,” he told Hits Radio on Wednesday, September 18. “So at first we didn’t get on at all. We absolutely hated each other, it was so funny.”
The 26-year-old explained that although things were “really bad” between them, they were able to “hide it well” from the rest of the world.
“It was crazy. In the end we kind of just settled that we’d both do different parts,” Liam continued.
But don’t worry, because although things were rough between them in the beginning, Liam added that he and Louis are super close now! When they asked him who the last member of One Direction was that he spoke to, he told the outlet, “Louis. I speak a lot to Louis. He’s been through so much. We’ve been through so much together as well.”
As fans know, the two stars recently reunited when they both performed at the Coca Cola Music Festival in Madrid, Spain, on September 13. Not only did they snap some adorable photos together backstage, but it was also reported that Louis came and checked on Liam when he heard he was feeling sick! How sweet is that?!

“If he has a problem he’ll call me. He sent me his new single and it’s pretty good actually,” Liam said. “I feel a lot for him sometimes, he’s been through so much. But I will say is that out of the most darkest situation you can have, it’s only helping him emerge as a person more.”
The One Direction guys have definitely been through a lot together, and it’s safe to say that their bond will never be broken.
