Packing on the PDA! Miley Cyrus and rumored girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter were spotted together backstage at the 2019 Video Music Awards on Monday, August 26. This comes just weeks after the Disney Channel alum’s split from longtime bae Liam Hemsworth, who she married in December 2018.
While the 26-year-old singer didn’t choose to walk the red carpet at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey – MTV cameras did capture the rumored couple walking backstage leading up to Miley’s big performance. See?
The “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” songstress performed her new single, “Slide Away,” which is believed to be about her breakup from Liam. The lyrics seemingly paint a picture of Miley leaving her ex and Malibu behind. As fans already know, the star’s 2017 track “Malibu” is about her happy life with the Hunger Games actor in the California beach city, which is where they called home. But now, it appears she’s leaving that life behind.
The lyrics read, “Once upon a time, it was paradise. / Once upon a time, I was paralyzed. / Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights. / But it’s time to let it go. / Once upon a time, it was made for us. / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust. / Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost. / So it’s time to let it go.”
She also sings about how she and her former lover grew apart — which makes sense, seeing as she and Liam dated on and off for an entire decade.
“Move on, we’re not 17. / I’m not who I used to be. / You say that everything changed. / You’re right, we’re grown now,” she sings.
In case you missed it, Liam filed for divorce on August 21 — and shortly after, Miley took to social media to deny rumors that she cheated on her ex. Miley and Kaitlynn have been spending a whole lot of time together ever since The Last Song stars announced their split. After the VMAs, the two women even headed to a nightclub for an afterparty, where they were photographed holding hands.
If one thing is for sure, it appears that Miley is moving on!
