Can we get a show of hands — who else cannot get enough of Riverdale? The CW series quickly became everyone’s obsession after it aired in 2017, and now, three seasons later, we’re all still hooked. Well guys, we have some exciting news. Prepare for even more adventures because it was just announced that the show is getting its second spinoff!

The spinoff series will be called Katy Keene, and get this — it’s going to be a musical dramedy. Um, we all know how epic the musical episode of Riverdale was, so a whole season with songs is bound to be epic.

But what will it be about? Well, fans of the comics know that Katy was an actress, singer and model in the original Archie comics, that after becoming widely popular, eventually got her own story. And just like the comic, the show will follow Katy and her friends as they travel to New York City and try “to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio,” according to Variety.

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who will also be working on the new show, confirmed the news via Twitter on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. “The #Riverdale universe expands! Thrilled to be bringing the adventures of Katy Keene and her New York pals to life,” he wrote. “Extra-thrilled to be doing this with my pal Michael Grassi @thatthingofwhen!”

As J-14 readers know, this isn’t the first spinoff that the popular series got. The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina aired on Netflix back in October, and based off how much we all loved that show, we know this one’s going to be just as epic.

It hasn’t been revealed yet whether any of our fave Riverdale characters will appear in the new series, but as Sabrina has shown, the show’s creators definitely know how to intertwine the worlds.

We would definitely love to see Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica take the big city, especially since Ronnie is originally from New York. We can already imagine a major crossover in the near future — maybe Veronica can take her squad to NYC to show them where she grew up and she can run into Katy? Um, we’re on to something here. Roberto, if you need any ideas, you know where to find us! LOL.
