Get ready to see Sabrina Carpenter take the Broadway stage! Yep, that’s right, the former Disney Channel star is about to join the cast of Broadway’s Mean Girls and showcase her stunning vocals as the role of Cady Heron.
“I definitely have been dreaming of this in a big way since I was a little girl,” the 20-year-old told People exclusively. “I always knew that one day I wanted to do it, I just didn’t know when it would happen. And I didn’t expect it either, at this point in my life, so I’m just so honored by it all.”
Sabrina will make her Broadway debut on March 10, 2020 and take over for Erika Henningsen who originated the role. The Girl Meets World alum will play the character for a 14-week limited engagement at the August Wilson Theatre in New York City. Her run is set to conclude on June 7, 2020.
“You only get these opportunities so many times in life. You get so lucky when you get to create something new that’s never been done before, and you fall in love with it as you’re making it,” Sabrina also said. “But coming into this already knowing that I’m such a fan? And saying every one of those iconic lines? I can’t put it into words; it’s just going to be so thrilling. It brings a whole new energy into it for me.”
For those who don’t know, Mean Girls is a musical adaption of the iconic film. The flick, which came out back in 2004 and was an instant classic, starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Jonathan Bennett, Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Franzese.
Not only is Sabrina super excited to join the musical’s cast, but the producers are thrilled to have her take the stage.
“We look forward to welcoming the extraordinarily talented Sabrina Carpenter leading our company, alongside new and returning cast members, as we graduate into year three on Broadway,” they said in a statement.
