When it premiered on Disney Channel in December 2011, Austin & Ally immediately became a fan favorite. Now, it’s been more than four years since the show came to an end, and fans are already wishing for a comeback. But they’re not the only ones! Laura Marano — who fans will remember played Ally Dawson — told J-14 exclusively in February 2020 and said that she’d be “100 percent” down to star in a reboot.

“It was one of the best experiences in my life,” the actress said at the time. “I love the cast and crew so much.”

Later that same year, Laura also said that the idea for a movie reunion is on the table.

“We’ve talked about it a bunch. We’ve all been very, kind of, public about it. I would, in a heartbeat, be down to do a movie. For sure,” the songstress told E! News‘ In the Room in May 2020. “I’m like yes, yes, yes, for it! But obviously, one, our schedules are all crazy — not necessarily now — but our schedules are crazy and, two, it’s not really up to us. I think all of us, like, we loved working together. We love hanging out. We truly had a really special bond. So, we’re down.”

Aside from Laura, the series starred Ross Lynch, Calum Worthy and Raini Rodriguez. It was all about shy songwriter Ally entering into a magical musical duo with Austin Moon after he stole one of the songs she wrote. Together they worked on music while learning to deal with Austin’s newfound fame and their possible romantic feelings for each other.

“I think the really cool part about the whole cast and crew of Austin & Ally is we are just so insanely supportive of each other — even not working on the show anymore,” Laura explained during an interview with Elite Daily from March 2019. This cast will definitely be best friends forever!

So, why did the show come to an end? Well, J-14 did some investigating and uncovered the real reason why fans had to say goodbye to Austin & Ally in 2016. Scroll through our gallery to find out why the Disney Channel series really ended.
