Prepare yourselves for another movie you’re going to no doubt be totally obsessed with: The Stand-In. The film is set to be released this year and it stars tons of your faves like Camila Mendes, Laura Marano, and the one and only Noah Centineo. So yes, heavy-hitters here who are already so beloved! Which brings us to our first question…
What is The Stand-In about?
Noah’s character, Brooks, as a way to raise money for college creates a dating app where he pretends to be stand-in boyfriends for those in need during any life situation that may come up where someone might require a boyfriend. And of course, he ends up falling for one girl and as you can imagine, there’s plenty of drama along the way!
Camila plays a character named Shelby, who happens to be the one Brooks totally falls head over heels for. And Shelby happens to have some things in common with the other character the 24-year-old starlet is known for bringing to life on Riverdale, Miss. Veronica Lodge.
“Shelby’s the girl that Brooks always dreamed of being with. It’s funny because she does share some similarities with Veronica. She’s very well off and goes to a prep school; she comes from this world that is very different from the world that Brooks comes from,” Camila said to Teen Vogue. “Basically, throughout the film, she is confronted with the fact that he’s been lying to her about something. I don’t really want to talk about too much of it because I’m going to end up spoiling something.”
Ahh, Cami is holding back on us! But we’ll get a sense of what she’s talking about once we see this movie for ourselves. And in case you were wondering, the cast totally got along super well. She had nothing but kind words to say about her time getting to know all her castmates.
“It was really fun. I love Noah, I love Laura. The first day we met, we all stayed up in our hotel room until 8 in the morning. We were talking about everything, and it was such a beautiful conversation, just a great way to get to know each other,” Camila said. “That kind of set the tone for the rest of the film. It was a really good group; Odiseas [Georgiadis, who plays Murph] too — he’s super cool and I’m really excited for him to be discovered. We all bonded very quickly.”
Aww, how cute is that? Cami and her Riverdale co-stars are legit like family and Noah’s real-life bond with his To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before leading lady Lana Condor has been melting hearts left and right. So it makes total sense this crew became besties! And fun fact: this is actually the second time Noah and Laura are working together.
“He was my first love interest on Austin & Ally and he’s just as lovely as ever. It’s crazy how much he’s blown up, it’s actually insane,” Laura dished to PEOPLE Now. “He’s the sweetest guy ever.”
OUR HEARTS. Don’t mind us, we’ll just be waiting here for an official release date now
