Get ready, you guys, because we have the most exciting news ever! Yeah, you might want to brace yourselves because it was just announced that Ariana Grande is starring in a brand new Netflix musical, and um, we’re seriously freaking out! That’s right. The “Dangerous Woman” songstress is returning to our TV screens, and lucky for you guys, we’ve got all the deets on the upcoming flick.
So according to Deadline, Ryan Murphy (the guy behind Glee and Scream Queens) will be directing and producing the new film, which is going to be a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical The Prom! In addition to the former Victorious star, it’s been reported that Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells will also star in the new flick. Wow, talk about an epic cast. It’ll premiere on Netflix sometime in fall 2020, and we seriously can’t wait.
But what’s it about, you ask? Well, the play follows a group of Broadway actors, who in an attempt to save their careers, stand up for a high school student named Emma who isn’t allowed to take her girlfriend to prom. Ariana will play Emma’s closeted girlfriend, Alyssa, who’s scared to let the school know about her feelings. And according to the outlet, they haven’t decided who will play Emma yet — but we know that whoever they choose is going to be amazing!
As fans know, Ari is destined for the role. We mean, she’s got a gorgeous voice and she’s a seriously talented actress. Oh, and did we mention that the 25-year-old actually started her career off on Broadway? Yep, she starred in the musical 13 back in 2008. She also starred in NBC’s live broadcast of the musical Hairspray Live!, so it’s clear that she’s absolutely perfect for this new movie.
