Shawn Mendes might only be 20 years old, but he’s already gone ahead and become well, a major music superstar. With hit albums and songs under his belt and sold out concerts all over the world, he’s slaying the music game but still remains humble. This he always credits to is close-knit family and friends and there’s one person in particular who he will forever love spending time with, and that’s his little sister, Aaliyah.
That’s right, in case you didn’t know, Shawn has one sibling, his younger sis and their bond is seriously the cutest. While speaking to KISS FM, the “In My Blood” singer admitted that he’s most excited to have some time off now that the holidays are approaching so he can spend time with Aaliyah. CAN’T EVEN HANDLE THE CUTENESS.
“I’m really looking forward to spending time with my sister. She’s a bit older now and she’s just really cool to hang out with. I feel like we have a really awesome connection. I always want to hang out with her, but she’s 15 now and she’s in high school and we’ve become actually really close friends and I really enjoy hanging with her,” he said. “The more I’m gone, the more I find myself reaching out and FaceTiming and just wanting to be with [my family].”
Umm, excuse us while we sob. That is just the cutest! So who is Aaliyah Mendes? Well, as Shawn said, she’s not a 15-year-old high school freshman so you know, she’s rather busy just living a normal life in Toronto. One look at her Instagram and you’ll see she hangs out with her friends and is just a typical teenage girl who happens to have a super famous brother. She barely ever posts anything shouting out the fact that yeah, Shawn is her brother, and that kind of just makes her a million times cooler. She did once upload a fam Boomerang, including Papa Mendes too, and it’s just goals all around.
Shawn did attend her eight-grade graduation back in 2017 too and he shared a super cute pic of the pair, writing “Very proud of you, love you.”
They really do look so much alike when you see them hanging out together like this, right? Aaliyah keeps things rather low-key, so we doubt she’ll be spilling any tea about what it’s like having her brother as you know, her brother. But it’s super sweet to know that out of all the famous faces Shawn gets to spend a lot of time with, no one means more to him than his sister.
