Fans have been waiting a long time for Dove to release music of her own, and the 23-year-old also shared a heartfelt note, explaining why it took her so long.

“Wanna start by saying that I know it’s been six years that I’ve been promising (teasing) music … It’s been the strongest, most varied/twisted journey to get to his point, but I’m so glad that it was,” she wrote on Instagram. “Every time I tried in the past, it was never quite right, and always a compromise of some kind. and while this is only the start of it, for the first time in my young career and life, I finally fee like I see who I am reflected in something I’m sharing with the world, and that’s incredibly gratifying and novel to me, if not a little terrifying/totally humbling.”

“To those of you that have been waiting, thanks for your patience and support. This first release is the end of music month, but the start of a whole new era for me as an artist, where my music plays a central role and I drop songs/content super regularly. We’ve waited long enough, you know?” the blonde beauty continued. “And for those of you that follow me but have no idea who I am or that I was planning on releasing music, I hope you hear yourself in some of my stuff. Can’t wait to start creating with you/for you.”

Back in July, Dove opened up about her new music to Seventeen Magazine.

“It’s all me, it’s all my sound. At the end of the day, I don’t do anything unless I love it. [This is] by far my most personal experience yet in the industry,” she revealed. “It’s taken me a long time, but just like everything else in my life so far, I now understand why I waited so long. It’s finally right. I really love who I am now.”

And in June, the Liv and Maddie alum gave us some more insight on why she hadn’t released any songs yet.

“OK. So, I was working on an independent album when I was younger (15), that I planned on releasing on my own, and then I signed with Disney,” she explained. “We (me and my manager at the time) put off releasing my own music because I was now under contract to be with their label, meaning I would release [Disney’s] music, not mine, after they cast me on their show. After they released me from the first right of refusal clause, (2 years later), I released music with my boyfriend at the time (I was 18/19/20). When we broke up, I then recorded some things independently again, and planned on releasing them. Then, I signed with Sony/Disruptor about a year ago, and have been working on music (singles and videos) ever since, now going to be released in a few months. That’s the full thing.”

We can’t wait to hear her new tunes, but we know that it’ll be worth the wait!
