Prepare yourselves, Riverdale fans, because Lucy Hale was just cast as the lead role in the Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene.

That’s right, ladies and gents! The Pretty Little Liars alum confirmed the news on Twitter on March 11, and of course, the Riverdale and PLL fandoms were immediately shook.

“Well I’m slightly freaking out!” she tweeted. “Thank you @archiecomics / @writerras / @thecw / @warnerbrostv / @thatthingofwhen for trusting me to be your KATY KEENE. my heart is bursting.”

According to Variety, the 29-year-old actress will play the role of Katy Keene, who they described as a “fashion legend-to-be.” Although Katy will be the lead character in the series, the show will also follow three others as they try to make their dreams a reality in New York City. Among them will be Riverdale character Josie McCoy, who will crossover from Riverdale and join Katy on her quest to fulfill her dreams. The role of Josie will continue to be played by Ashleigh Murray.

At this point, you’re probably dying to know the premise of the show, and while details on what we can expect from the series are few and far between at this point, there are a few things you should know. For example, while Lucy’s character will be working tirelessly on making it in the fashion world, the other characters will be busy trying to make it in their respective fields too. One character will be laser-focused on making it as a recording artist, and another will be trying to land a role on Broadway. So cool!

Variety also revealed some details about what we can expect from Katy’s character in particular, saying that she’s “a bold, big-hearted and independent twenty-something New Yorker, who aspires to be a fashion designer. When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city.” OMG.

And just in case you’re not excited enough for Katy Keene based on what we’ve just told you, we’ve got some other great news. The show will be written and executive produced by Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi, and Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater will also executive produce the series. If those names sound at all familiar, it’s because they’re the same people who’ve blessed us with Riverdale. In other words, Katy Keene is definitely in good hands.

But wait, there’s more. The cast will also include Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Jonny Beauchamp, and Julia Chan, so it sounds to us like the series can begin production at any moment! And even though we don’t have all the answers about the upcoming spinoff, don’t worry — as soon as we find out more info you’ll be the first to know.
