Fans were pretty shook when Niall Horan‘s new album, Heartbreak Weather, dropped on March 13, 2020. Why? Well, there were a lot of songs on it that were rumored to be about his ex-girlfriend Hailee Steinfeld! Now, the singer has seemingly confirmed that the actress definitely knows the tracks were inspired by her.

“Oh, I’m sure. Yeah, I’m sure,” the One Direction member said when asked if the person who the songs were based off of knows. “But I think I’ve covered all angles of the relationship from everyone’s point of view, which is good. I mean, it’ll probably still sound really selfish, but my idea when I was writing them was that it was written from other people’s angles and stuff. But listen, it’s all good. It’s all good now.”

For those who missed it, rumors first started swirling that the “Slow Hands” crooner and the Pitch Perfect 2 star were dating back in February 2018, after they were spotted getting pretty cozy at a Backstreet Boys concert. And when they were photographed smooching in August 2018, fans of the couple got all the confirmation that they had been waiting for. But they unfortunately called it quits in December of the same year, and after they went their separate ways, it definitely didn’t seem like they ended on great terms. Why? Well, Hailee seemingly shaded the pop star multiple times on her Instagram Stories, and she even allegedly called him a narcissist! Ouch.

While speaking to Daily Star, the 26-year-old admitted that he used to be selfish in relationships.

“I’ve definitely learnt so much about myself,” he revealed. “I feel off the back of that relationship you learn so much about yourself and you don’t realize you do until you sit down and try and write songs about it and you go, ‘F**king hell maybe I’m not as selfish as I used to be.’ I learned to write in a less selfish way, because I’ve written tons of love songs before but they all seem to be, ‘I’m so sad… Me me me.” There are songs written from another person’s point of view. I tried to attack all angles of heartbreak. I think that says a lot about me as I wouldn’t have done that a couple years ago, I would have been a bit more selfish about things so off the back of my last relationship, and writing the album, I feel like that is taking a step in the right direction for the long term.”
