Before their split, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello introduced the world to their puppy, Tarzan, in November 2020.
A year later, Camila spent Thanksgiving cuddled up with the pooch days after the former flames announced their breakup.
“I have a lot to be thankful for, but I’m especially grateful that I gotta whole squad trying to hang w me while I meditate,” she captioned a video of the dog at the time. “Happy gratitude day everybody! I’m very thankful for all of you on here who send me love, listen to my music and support me on this creative/ life journey! Even though I haven’t met a lot of you, you guys show me love, kindness and support and I’m sending it to all of you right back!”
She also gave fans a holiday update from Tarzan’s Instagram account, which eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice in April 2021. “I have never met you but I love you,” the bio reads.
Both Shawn and Camila follow the pooch, who has given fans a glimpse into his life. “This was my first day of doggy day care I played so much and I am never shy I love every dog and every person so much,” one photos caption read.
The “Havana” songstress was first to introduce fans to their pup via social media. “During uncertain times like this we need a reminder that sweet miracle things like puppies exist in the world too, meet the new member of the pack: Tarzan!” Camila wrote on Instagram when posting a pic of the dog for her millions of followers. “Love you guys and Tarzan sends a big puppy lick.”
In an August 2019 interview with Vogue, Camila revealed, “I really like to name all my dogs after Disney characters … “So, every dog in the future will be named after a Disney prince.”
The exes got their first dog together a little over a year after going public with their relationship. Shawn and Camila sparked romance rumors for years before officially becoming a twosome in July 2019, and they’ve been the epitome of couple goals ever since. Now that there’s a puppy in their lives, Shawn and Camila’s frequent PDA-filled snaps have been replaced with dog content that we never knew we needed! From selfies including Tarzan to pics of the pup bringing holiday cheer, Shawnmila’s pet is taking over social media one photo at a time. “I think we’re actually overachievers because we spoke to [celebrity dog trainer] Cesar Millan, and we got a dog trainer,” Shawn told People in December 2020. “We’re very strict on all the things we have to do. Then when he nips at people we’re like, ‘We’re the worst dog parents in the whole world!'”
The Canadian crooner continued, “He’s the sweetest boy. Honestly, it really does feel like you have a little boy, a little baby, because they so quickly have such a personality. Dogs give so much.”
