J-14 caught up with Kirsten Prout to talk about her new horror movie My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 2 (premiering this Friday on MTV at 10 p.m.), tasting fake blood, and partying with Taylor Lautner!
J-14: What's your My Super Psycho Sweet 16 character Alex like?
Kirsten Prout: Alex is a really, really fun character to play because I enjoy playing darker characters. Alex has always had a hard time finding where to fit in growing up, and she has always been a kind of nervous and insecure person. So when her half-sister Skye comes into her life, Alex thinks she has finally found a person to depend on. But then things start going sideways and Alex has a very, very hard time coping. It was really fun to play such a dark character!
J-14: This is such a scary movie! Did you ever get freaked out on set?
Kirsten: Well, sometimes it gets a little bit creepy. There was this one time I came to set and didn't know what they were filming. I just walked up behind a monitor and I saw all this blood splattered on Chris Zylka (Brigg)'s face and he had this terrified look. I was like, "Oh my gosh!" Sometimes you get shocked if you don't know what to expect, but when you're actually involved in it on set it's more funny than scary. Like Lauren McKnight (Skye) had a scene where she had 33 ounces of blood pumped on her...
J-14: Wait, real blood?!
Kirsten: No! It was fake. You could pick your flavor -- sometimes it tasted like chocolate or mint. But anyway, Lauren was on the ground screaming and covered in all this blood, but when they yelled cut, she started laughing so hard. When your character is supposed to be terrified, you kind of lose yourself in that scary moment. But as soon as they yell cut, it's like this rush of adrenaline and you just end up laughing.
J-14: Did you ever have a really embarrassing moment on set?
Kirsten: Everyone was so excited one day about filming this big stunt where a girl was supposed to pop out of a cake lit on fire. When it was time to film, we all crowded around and they counted three, two, one and lit the girl and her suit on fire. But when she popped out, there was only one tiny little flame on her elbow! The fire hadn't caught properly, and it was so anticlimactic. That moment was so awkward! Nobody knew whether to laugh or if it was rude to laugh.
J-14: You also had the amazing opportunity to play Lucy in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. What were the stars like in real life?
Kirsten: Kristen Stewart is really down to earth, which I think comes across all the time. She's not a diva at all! And Taylor Lautner is such sweetie. He's a good guy and he's personable and he always has a smile on his face. But oh gosh, I saw him mobbed at a party once -- a bunch of fan girls got in and he was cornered like a zoo animal with a bunch of cell phone cameras pointed his way. That poor guy!
