2018 was a fantastic year for music — especially when it came to collaborations. Cardi B collaborated with Bruno Mars, Liam Payne dropped a song with Rita Ora, and honestly, we still can’t get Zedd and Maren Morris‘ “The Middle” out of our heads. That said, it seems like 2019 is shaping up to be another great year of collabs, and already rumors are swirling that some of our absolute faves are hitting the studio together.

So, who’s going to collaborate on a hit song next? Well, fans are absolutely convinced that Niall Horan and Khalid are cooking something up, and it’s all because of a few cryptic exchanges on Twitter.

To start off their ~interesting~ exchange, the One Direction crooner asked his followers to tell the “Young Dumb & Broke” singer to call him, which is pretty odd considering he could probably get in touch with the rising star very quickly if he really wanted to.

But wait, there’s more. Once the 20-year-old caught wind of the “Slow Hands” singer’s message, he sent him back two emojis of an umbrella during a rain shower. What does it mean? Well, we’re not so sure, but fans are utterly convinced the “Love Lies” artist was alluding to the title of a possible song the two may be working on together, especially since the 25-year-old replied with the same emoji. Hmm…

Soon after their exchange, however, Khalid responded to a fan tweet that suggested a collab was in the works with laughing emojis, so maybe there’s nothing going on at all and the two are just messing with us?

To make things even more interesting, the singer-songwriter liked a tweet suggesting that perhaps Niall would be hopping on an as-of-yet unreleased song of Khalid’s, titled “Raining in Miami.”

“I swear to GOD if it’s Raining in Miami (ft Niall Horan) I’m DEACTIVATING,” the fan said. “I would NOT know how to handle the f–king greatness.”

Obviously, it’s way too early to know if the “Too Much To Ask Singer” is really working with Khalid, but what we do know is that the industry newcomer is no stranger to collaborations. Plus, after all the success from his song with Normani, why wouldn’t he want to do another?
