Beauty vlogger Jaclyn Hill has taken a major step back from “everything” after receiving “devastating” family news.
On Monday, March 23, the YouTuber took to her Instagram Stories and opened up to followers about why she’s been absent from social media lately. The 29-year-old got real about some tragic news that she has received and told fans that she’s not in a “positive mood” to share everything that has happened.
“I know that I have not been on social media as of recently and I feel like it’s poor timing to talk about it, so I’m not going to, and I’m also not emotionally ready… But I have received some really devastating news recently, and my family, and also just some things going on in my personal life… I just needed to take a step back to process stuff going on because it’s just so much right now,” Jaclyn explained.
She continued, “I think it’s in bad taste for me to get on here and tell you guys everything that’s going on and bring more devastation and news that’s nasty. So, I have just kept my distance from social media because I haven’t really been in a positive mood and I think the world needs positivity right now and I’m not in the place to be spreading that.”
As fans know, earlier this month, Jaclyn announced via Twitter that she was taking a social media break in order to make “health” her number one priority.
“For the past couple of years I’ve completely neglected ME. I’ve focused on people around me and my career but I’ve totally let myself go in the meantime. I am working with an amazing team right now to detox my body and get myself back to where I need to be,” she posted at the time.
The break came just a few weeks after she opened up, in a 37-minute video, about how she has struggled with anxiety since her June 2019 lipstick scandal. For those who missed it, Jaclyn came under fire after her lipstick line launched when fans found hairs, lumps and what appeared to be mold inside her products. She admitted that after being slammed by YouTube’s beauty community, she turned to alcohol in order to cope with her worsening anxiety and her excessive drinking caused her to gain 20 pounds.
“At the end of the day, to cope with my anxiety and my depression, I turned to alcohol and started drinking to fix what I was feeling mentally,” she admitted. “On days where I would be so filled with anxiety and I would drink more than other days, I would wake up in the morning and my face would be so swollen and my eyes would be so puffy and I would just cry…I wouldn’t look like this if I didn’t make such poor decisions. I wouldn’t look like this if I didn’t hurt myself by self-medicating with alcohol.”
