It’s been eight months since Cameron Boyce tragically passed away, and now, a new flick featuring the late Disney star just came out. The movie, called Runt, was filmed months before his heartbreaking death, and premiered at the Mammoth Film Festival on February 29, 2020.

According to Deadline, the actor played a boy named Cal in the new movie — a teenager who experienced a troubling incident that made him a cold and angry person. Now, one of Cameron’s costars from the film, Nicole Elizabeth Berger, has opened up about what it was really like working with the Jessie and Descendants star.

“From the first time I read the script I knew this was going to be a dramatic story about the challenges faced by teenagers. I knew Cameron was this bright new star, or at least I thought I knew him. But I really got to know him on set, and I saw him transition into a part that requires him focused and serious in character,” the 16-year-old told PopCulture.com. “He was dedicated and committed and would occasionally take breaks by shooting hoops in the basketball court here at set. Cameron was charismatic and genuine, and he didn’t have a big ego. He wasn’t self-absorbed, and he wanted to be treated like everyone else.”

As fans know, Cameron was only 20 years old when he died on July 6, 2019, after having a seizure in his sleep. He suffered from a medical condition called epilepsy, and the entire world was devastated over his sudden passing.

“I was in denial for a while. I was shocked,” the actress continued. “I couldn’t believe it. I’m never going to really get to say goodbye.”

“Last summer, I worked on @runtmovie opposite @thecameronboyce. I am deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of one of the most genuine and beautiful souls out there,” Nicole wrote on Instagram days after he passed away. “Despite being immensely talented, he was always modest and humble. There was so much he still wanted to do and see. He always made sure his work reflected who he was as a person. I want to thank so many of his friends and fans for reaching out to me. Sending my love and thoughts to his family and friends, from mine to yours.”
