Now that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has officially come to an end, it’s time to take a walk down memory lane and uncover some seriously shocking behind-the-scenes secrets.
Starring Kiernan Shipka, Gavin Leatherwood, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Luke Cook, Chance Perdomo, Ross Lynch, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Lachlan Watson, Michelle Gomez and Richard Coyle, the Riverdale spinoff series aired four seasons from October 2018 to December 2020.
It was announced that the stars were saying goodbye to their bewitching roles in July 2020 when showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa released a statement to TVLine and said, “Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honor from day one. The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show. I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it.”
Leading up to the show’s season 4 premiere, the cast not only said goodbye to their coveted roles, but revealed some fun facts from the shows set.
“I was very surprised,” Kiernan told Entertainment Tonight about the show’s finale in December 2020. “I think I sort of had the same mentality as everyone else, which was Sabrina can’t die. She is Sabrina. She can’t die. And then I was like, ‘Oh, there’s no more pages. I think that’s it.’ But it’s a dramatic ending.”
She added, “At the end of the day, I think that what it represents is she is truly a selfless soul, and she sacrifices herself for the greater good which is very hefty. And I think it hit me emotionally quite a bit. It’s not an easy ending to just digest. There is a lot of meaning and impact behind it and how we wish to read into that. But above all else, I was completely surprised.”
Much to fans’ surprise, a lot of the magic that went down on set wasn’t magic at all! While the spells they said were real, nothing actually happened to the stars.
