During an open and honest Instagram Live conversation with CNN commentator Angela Rye on Sunday, May 31, Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber educated themselves on racism and privilege following the tragic death of George Floyd. After the stream, the model reposted the entire video to Instagram with a candid message about her experience with privilege.

“This week we had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with @AngelaRye. As a white woman, I know I am privileged, and I didn’t always understand what that really meant. I will never understand what it’s like to be racially profiled and targeted and wake up every day uncertain if I could lose my life because of the color of my skin,” the 23-year-old explained to her 27 million followers. “Through this conversation with Angela I really just wanted to learn, to ask questions even if I thought they were the wrong question. I want to know better so I can do better and I will not stop asking these questions and having these conversations. I want to keep learning how to be an ally, and I refuse to keep walking through life being ignorant. #BlackLivesMatter.”

For those who missed it, on May 25, George — a 46-year-old, unarmed black man — died in Minneapolis, MN, after a police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes. The white officer — Derek Chauvin — did not move even as George repeatedly said “I can’t breathe,” as heard in a video captured by bystanders. The officer has since been arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Aside from Justin and Hailey, many celebrities, including Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Madison Beer, Ross Lynch, Jaz Sinclair, Timothée ChalametLauren Jauregui and more have joined the Black Lives Matter movement, spoke out on social media and attended various protests to fight racial injustice and police brutality.
