The YouTube community went into total chaos on May 10 after Tati Westbrook posted a 43-minute video slamming fellow makeup guru James Charles. Not only did Tati call out her former friend for promoting a business that is a direct competitor to hers, but she also exposed him for allegedly manipulating straight men into “thinking they’re gay.” Now, there are a number of males who are leaking messages from James in response to Tati’s allegations.

The 37-year-old said in her “BYE SISTER…” video, “The last phone conversation that James Charles and I had, he said some things, telling me about a situation that happened in Seattle at my birthday, and it literally made me want to vomit. Oh my God, you tried to trick a straight man into thinking he’s gay yet again. And somehow, you’re the victim. You know, it’s really disgusting to manipulate someone’s sexuality — especially when they are still emerging into adulthood.”

Spencer is an influencer who James reached out to in 2017. The YouTuber posted a video on May 13, 2019, explaining what went down between them.

“So when he messaged me in 2017, he messaged me saying, ‘you’re very cute.’ OK? At first, I was in a public relationship. It was very obvious that I was straight. And at the time, I was a bit, mmm, this is a bit interesting. But also, thinking back, I thought about how it generally made me feel,” he said. “Nothing is wrong when it comes to complimenting people. If he feels that way, you know, it’s nice of you to tell me. But this feeling of intimidation is the only thing I could grasp from it. It’s so intimidating when such a big star or someone with 16 million followers — he’s a massive big deal — messages you. You feel almost inclined and intimidated not to ignore it. Does that make sense? It’s almost — his power is so large that it made me feel so small, as if I should kind of sway towards just going along with it.”

Spencer went on to explain why he thinks James alleged behavior is problematic.

The web star continued, “He is literally using his power and his platform and everything he’s created to prey on smaller, vulnerable people. And that is not a joke, for real. That is not a joke, like, that’s not cool. And I know a lot of other influencers do that as well.”

“Not a lot of people know that I troll 99% of the time. Except for this instance. James, you are not getting this married man. Don’t ever feel you should accept a compliment. Even it’s by a dude with 16 million followers,” he captioned the receipts.

The musician took to Instagram to ask James to hang out while he was in town. They ended up going to an escape room with a group of friends, but Sebastian claims that it took a turn.

“but after realizing i was honestly just trying to be friends with him, he kept calling me names like cutie every time we would talk & would send me messages like this… again.. i didn’t know what to say so i uncomfortably just kept saying it was alright,” he continued in a series of tweets. “i’m really not one to start drama, i just thought i would speak up about my experience with james charles. it’s not okay to force your sexuality on others & hopefully this will give people the message that it IS okay to speak up & talk about it. you are not alone.”

The singer took to Twitter to reveal that James messaged her boyfriend, Brian H Whitaker.

“I’m cackling cause he hit up my boyfriend in the [DMs] several times knowing d–n well he’s straight,” she tweeted.

After that, she’s backtracked and felt guilty for chiming into the conversation.

“I feel like deleting this cause I checked and it wasn’t several times, only one dm and some comments under pictures,” she then tweeted. “It made me really uncomfortable cause I felt like it was [disproportionately] blown up and I honestly don’t wanna be a part of it. I feel like I shouldn’t have made [myself] involved, even if the behavior is problematic in general.”

The YouTuber reached out to James while they were in Nashville, but he took to Twitter to explain that James’ flirty messages didn’t sit well with him.

He tweeted, “i would watch vlogs of james charles emma & the dolans. i saw james was in nashville so i thought itd be cool to meet him we never grabbed coffee & then a month later he sent weird messages then a couple days after that sent even weirder messages & made me extremely uncomfortable.”

Without mentioning his name, Tati hinted at the waiter in her video exposing James. Sam then took to YouTube to tell his story. While the video is now deleted, many versions of the tell-all video are reposted all over the internet. Sam went on to explain how James came to the restaurant he worked at for Tati’s birthday dinner. The next day, Sam (who says he was bicurious at the time) messaged James on Instagram. Eventually, Sam went to James’ hotel room. The two kissed for “around an hour,” and then Sam said he wanted to leave. The waiter claimed that James kept telling him to stay.

The two exchanged messages and talked for some time, but Sam said he finally came to the realization that he was straight — which James was surprised to learn. Sam released their private messages in his YouTube video, in which James tells him, “You’re not straight, no matter how many times you tell yourself.”
