J-14 chatted with Tyson Houseman, who plays wolf pack member Quil in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (June 30) about hanging out with Taylor Lautner, getting buff, and if he's Team Edward or Team Jacob!
J-14: Was it different working on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse versus The Twilight Saga: New Moon?
Tyson: It was very different! For New Moon, I had a really small part, so I was only there for one day of shooting. I didn't have that much time to spend with the other actors or get a feel for what it was like on the movie set. But in Eclipse my character joins the wolf pack and I had a whole lot more scenes. I got to run around with my shirt off and do a bunch of crazy stunts. So it gave me a way better chance to get comfortable on set with comfortable with the other actors.
Did you feel pressure to be as buff as Taylor Lautner?
Tyson: There was a little bit of pressure. I was reading the books and I kept on reading how buff and muscular Quill was and I was really curious why they picked me! But once we started the workouts I think I gained a good twenty or twenty five pounds within the first two months.
J-14: Did you bond with the rest of the wolf pack?
Tyson: We did. Me and the other wolf pack guys, we would all do wolf pack training together with these really, really intense workouts we had to do two months prior to each film -- things like exercises involving other people doing push ups with someone else on your back or running with someone holding you back. Those were a really great bonding experience because was went through a lot of pain together.
J-14: What did you guys do during your downtime on set?
Tyson: Taylor always had a football -- like always, always, had a football. You just look for Taylor and he would just be throwing around a football. We would always have a lot of fun doing that.
J-14: What is something people would be surprised to know about Taylor?
Tyson: He's not as tall as tall as he looks in the movie. I think the character is supposed to be like 6' 8" or something like that. Taylor's definitely not 6' 8"! Also, he's a really, really outgoing nice guy. A lot of people expect him to be really stand-offish and not really talkative, but as soon as you meet Taylor, he's like, "Hey, how's your day?"
J14: Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Tyson: I've got to stick to my tribe -- I'm going to say Team Jacob!
