A healthy baby girl! Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have been giving fans glimpses into their daughter’s life ever since she was born.
“She was so bright right away,” Gigi said about her daughter in her cover story for Vogue‘s March 2021 issue. “That’s what I wanted for her, a peaceful bringing to the world.”
As of now, the couple has no plans to share photos of Khai with the public. “I have friends who are public figures and that’s how they’ve gone about it, and I see their kids really blossom in a different way,” she explained during the Vogue interview. As for where they plan to raise the baby girl? Both Gigi and Zayn have an affinity for their farm in Pennsylvania.
“The greenery and the farm-y lifestyle are similar to what made me feel really centered as a kid, and I think that’s really important to Zayn and me,” she told the publication. “I think that just giving your child the opportunity to explore different interests is such a beautiful thing.”
The couple announced the birth of their first daughter together on September 23, 2020, when the One Direction crooner shocked social media followers with a rare Instagram photo that showed his baby girl gripping his hand. “Our baby girl is here, healthy & beautiful,” he wrote. After Zayn’s post, the Victoria’s Secret model uploaded a similar photo to her own feed and told followers that the newborn “already changed our world.”
Then, on January 21, 2021, she revealed the baby girl’s name — Khai — in her Instagram bio! But as it turned out, Gigi actually revealed the name months ago. When sharing a photo of her holiday decorations in November 2020, the name Khai could be spotted under their Christmas tree!
In February 2021, she also shared the baby’s nickname: Khaiba. “I love you [so much] it hurts. Khaiba is lucky to have an auntie like you,” Gigi commented to her sister Bella on Instagram. When a fan account on Twitter called this the baby’s “full name,” the new mom set the record straight. “No, it’s just a nickname,” she wrote.
Gigi first confirmed that a baby was on the way on April 30, 2020, after rumors started circulating that she was expecting. “Obviously, we wish we could’ve announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support,” the 25-year-old said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
