The last couple weeks have seriously taken a toll on the beauty community, and it all started when Tati Westbrook, also known as GlamLifeGuru, took to her channel to expose James Charles for allegedly manipulating straight men and for being a downright lousy friend. Now that several videos have been posted in response, including an apology from James himself and a video from Jeffree Star, the Sisters Apparel founder posted another video on May 18 with detailed receipts, which seemingly prove the allegations to be false.

“First and foremost, I do want to issue a thank you to both Jeffree and Tati for taking some of the responsibility for blowing this whole thing up and for starting everything,” the 19-year-old said in the 40-minute-long video. “I really respect that a lot, and I also appreciate the fact that they were trying to redirect the hate away because I think we’re all aware at this point that it has gotten way too far. The past week on the internet has been the darkest I think we’ve all ever seen, and it’s also been the darkest time that I’ve ever had to go through in my life and my thoughts got to a really scary place.”

The makeup artist then went on to say that he “doesn’t really feel comfortable just moving on” from the allegations, so he dove into a timeline of everything that went down from when he decided to promote SugarBearHair at Coachella until now. In the video, he hit every major point Tati brought up, with screenshots and other proof that he’s in the clear.

In response to Tati’s allegations that he uses his power to manipulate straight men into doing whatever he wants, the 19-year-old said, “I have never and would never and will never use my fame, money or power to manipulate or get any sexual actions from a guy. That is disgusting, it is not me and the fact that Tati brought this up blows my mind because she knows the real story.”

James went on to show several text messages, which seemingly proved that all of his interactions with bi-curious men have been consensual. He then went on to slam Zara Larsson for misleading tweets that suggested he harassed her boyfriend, and also shared scathing text messages from none other than Jeffree Star. These text messages claimed that the men James allegedly manipulated would expose him in videos of their own, which never actually happened.

As you could probably imagine, all the allegations made against James — along with the opinions of millions of people on the internet — severely impacted his mental health. Right now, he’s focused on getting himself back to a good place mentally, especially since the drama over the last couple weeks pulled him into a really dark depression.

“I’ve always tried to use my platform to spread positivity,” the social media star said. “But at this point I feel like it’s my responsibility to be honest with you guys and tell you that the last few weeks of my life has been the most painful time that I’ve ever had to deal with and my head and brain for a hot minute went to a place so dark that I didn’t think that I was going to come back from. … I can’t believe I just admitted that on camera.”

“People always say being a social media influencer is an easy job,” he continued. But I don’t think any human being ever is prepared to deal with the pain and anxiety of what it feels like for millions of people to be talking to you at one time.”

NGL, James’ video was extremely eye-opening, and if anything, it proved that there are always several sides to every story. If nothing else, we should all come away with the lesson that spreading hate online is never OK, and we’re wishing James, Tati and Jeffree peace in the aftermath of this very messy situation.
