Romance rumors between the two first started swirling after a video of Charli and Chase kissing on New Year’s Eve even went viral shortly after it was posted to Instagram gossip account, TikTokRoom. Fans who spotted the two teens in public also noticed that they were constantly holding hands.

They continued add fuel to the relationship rumors in January after Charli took to Instagram and shared a series of adorable photos of her and Chase hanging out in a pool while on vacation in Hawaii. Fans freaked out when they noticed that the social media star was kissing his rumored girlfriend on the cheek in all three snaps.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chase revealed that the pair was “very exclusive.”

“We really like each other, we just don’t wanna put a label on it yet. I told her I wanna take my time and make sure everything’s right for me before I make it official,” he said before revealing that they haven’t said “I love you” to each other yet and will take things to the next level “when the time is right.”

The social media star continued, “I’m taking it as slow as humanly possible before I pop the question [of asking her to be my girlfriend]. But we are very exclusive and very into each other.”

The pair packed on the PDA in a TikTok video set to the Harry Styles song “Adore You,” and fans expecting a dance video were shook when the two smooched instead.

A few weeks later, fans started speculating that the pair had split up and gone their separate ways following the release of Josh Richards‘ diss track called “Still Softish,” on March 20, which seemingly accused Chase of cheating on Charli. In the new tune, he seemingly made reference to the fact that Chase was talking to other girls while saying he was with Charli.

“This is to tell all of your fans you still be f**king with girls. Telling people Charli’s your world,” the song lyrics read.

A week after the song was released, when Charli seemingly hinted at a breakup between her and Chase via Twitter, it fueled speculation even more. The 16-year-old retweeted two posts from an account called @BreakUpQuotes on March 27, and her followers were quick to assume that the cryptic messages were directed toward Chase.

“You will not heal by going back to what broke you,” one tweet read. The other said, “I miss what could have been.”

On April 3, Chase took to Twitter and allegedly addressed the cheating rumors.

“It always is what it isn’t,” he wrote, adding, “They’ll always paint me as the bad guy.”

“I’m just doing what I love. Don’t try and [f**k] with something that is pure especially when it is false to begin with,” he told his follower, before saying, “I love one woman. Do not tell lies.”

Sway House member and Josh’s friend also took to Twitter and seemingly called out Chase for lying.

“The only lie I see is this tweet,” he wrote back, then claimed everything in the previously released song was real, writing, “Why would we make a whole diss-track to just spit lies? That kinda defeats the purpose of a ‘diss’ track… Otherwise it would just be a lie-track. No fun.”

At the time, Charli’s mom, Heidi D’Amelio, also spoke out about the cheating rumors. According to the screenshot of an Instagram comment obtained by the account TikTok Room, she called the rumors “disgusting.”

“No one but Charli and Chase know what is going on with them! Everyone has decided they know what happened,” Heidi’s alleged comment read. “How can anyone have these thoughts? They are horrible! Please spread positivity! Please! Always!”

On April 14, the couple took to social media and announced that they had officially broken up. They asked fans to respect their privacy at the time.

“I decided I needed to tell you all that we are no longer together. It hurts me to say this, but we’ve decided that this is what’s best for the both of us,” Charli wrote in a since-expired Instagram Stories post. “We are still close friends and I would not change that for anything! I truly have so much love for Chase and with nothing but the best for him!”

Chase added, “Charli and I wanted to share with you all that while we will alway shave love for each other, we are no longer together. A few days later, Bryce got involved in their breakup and claimed that Chase treated her like “complete s**t” throughout their relationship.

Almost a full month after they called it quits, fans have speculated that Charli and Chase are back together. The rumors started on May 1 — Charli’s 16th birthday — when Chase posted a social media message to the TikTok star, which included a white heart emoji. Their followers have claimed that the symbol means “true love.”

Others were shook when Chase was wearing his ex’s merch in a brand new TikTok video. He also thanked her for the hoodie in the video’s caption.

Lastly, some fans have noticed that the pair were recently spotted to be wearing the same “love bracelet” in their most recent TikTok posts.

Then, the entire internet was shook when Chase posted a since-deleted photo (that was quickly screenshotted and reposted by fans) from his notes app that seemingly called out his friends and other influencers for their alleged infidelities.

“The only person who has a right to be upset with me is Charli and I’m sorry I hurt her,” he wrote. “I am not sorry to Josh, we are not boys and we haven’t been boys since he lied to Charli.”

After the “America’s Sweetheart,” music video premiered, Charli took to Instagram and opened up about the song and her part in the visual.
